TPIC8101: 3VDD VoL value

Part Number: TPIC8101

Hi Team,

Datasheet parameters are referred for 5VDD operation. For 5VDD ,VoL mentioned is 0.7V. Customer is using  3.3VDD and want to understand VoL value for 3.3VDD.

Please help with your inputs. Thanks in advance for the help and support.

Regards, Shinu Mathew.

  • Shinu,

The TPIC8101 really should be considered a 5V device. All of the testing and electrical characteristics are only for that mode of operation.
  • We are using this Knock sensor INTERFACE ic .So kindly support us.

1.We have an interfacing IC which works on 3.3v

    2.But TPIC8101 works on 5v

3.So for Vih(min) if we consider 0.7*VDD the noise margin analysis fails(highlighted in red)

4.If we consider 0.6*VDD the noise margin analysis Passes.

Can we go on with this or we need to consider only 0.7*VDD??

5.The percentage factor is decided by which parameter.

6.And also the Vol(max) value is high enough for it drive the other IC.

7.Suggest if there is any alternate for this part no: TPIC8101DWR

  • It is quite possible that you will see the device work if you try this; however, I cannot recommend lowering the 0.7*VDD spec to 0.6*VDD. There will be a region below 0.7*VDD where the logic will still be correct (this is the margin in the spec); however, we choose our limits intentionally and cannot guarantee reliable performance outside of those ranges.

Unfortunately, this is the only integrated knock sensor device from TI, but you could use a level translator to avoid the problem.
  • Thank you for your reply.

    We would consider your suggestion.
