TPS65981: TPS65981 GPIO

Part Number: TPS65981
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HD3SS460,

we are using PD controller TPS65981 along with MUX HD3SS460 in  Medical design of DisplayPort Alternate Mode on USB type C.

I have one query related to use of GPIO in our application. pls. help me to get answer as early as possible. appreciate if you can help me by today evening.

There are 8 GPIO pins on TPS65981 lout of which we are planning to use pins for HPD, and select line for MUX HD3SS460. I would like to use GPIO6..8 for reading various digital input signal from circuit board. Is it available for customer application?

  • Hello Dilip,

What signal are you wanting to connect to GPIO's 6 and 8? Would you be able to explain how you are wanting the TPS65981 to respond after receiving these digital signals?
  • Also, technically you can use GPIOs 6, 7, and 8. But, to we suggest you use the same GPIOs for mux control that our TI reference designs use. When you use the same GPIOs as our design your hardware is automatically agrees with the default GPIOs events that are mapping using our configuration GUI. This means it will save you time and help your design stay compatible to future releases of the firmware and configuration tool.
To see the TI design, please go to the TPS65981 page of TI.com. It contains a like to "TPS65981 USB Type-C and USB PD Controller, Power Switch, and High Speed Multiplexer EVM". That page includes the "TPS65981 EVM User's Guide". See section 5.1.4.1 of that user guide for which GPIOs to use.
To see how this fits with the mux, please look at the "TPS6598x DisplayPort Expansion Evaluation Module", www.ti.com/.../dp-expansion-evm.
