TPS65987EVM: start up questions

Part Number: TPS65987EVM

Hi

I have them powered up and want to continue with loading the TPS6598x Application-Customization Tool User Guide on my PC. Assuming this is the first step?

I downloaded this software but I saw on the bulletin boards that there may be some USB driver issues. Any guidance?

This is the package I downloaded:

slvc621z.zip

I have these 2 docs for this SW. Is one more pertinent than the other Doc?

slvuar8a.pdf

slvub60a.pdf

Is this the correct SW and correct docs and are there any patches required?

  • Hi,

Were you able to install and run the Tool?

In the Tool, there should be a menu item "Documents" and the first entry should be "application customization tool users guide".

I expect you will be able to establish a USB debug and programming conneciton with the EVM using this tool. Be sure you downloaded "TPS6598X-CONFIG: TPS6598x Configuration Tool". THe current version as of now is v5.1 dated 18-FEB-2019 .

    Regards,
    Scott
  • Hi,  the tool has not been installed

is the TPS6598X-CONFIG that actual tool to install or is this install compliments another SW package?

  • Hi,

Yes, please install the package from "TPS6598X-CONFIG: TPS6598x Configuration Tool". You will download a .zip file. Inside will be the installer. The Tool is self contained. It has everything it needs plus documents to describe operation.

    Regards,

    Scott

  • thanks, is there a quick start guide as well?
  • just to check :- When reading this document: SLVUAR8A–May 2016–Revised July 2016, titled: TPS6598x Application-Customization Tool User Guide, although dated earlier than the config tool you provided, it states the following in section 1.1:

NOTE: This tool is replacing the TPS6598x Configuration Tool; therefore, use of this tool is
recommended to receive the latest firmware and features.

So, my question is should I be using the config tool or not? Did TI go back to the config tool as the preferred method?

I just do not want to go too far without knowing I have the correct tool.
  • Hi Alan,

There was an earlier version of the tool with a similar name. The current version is kept up to date at www.ti.com/.../tps6598x-config

Be sure to download the TPS6598X-CONFIG TPS6598x Configuration Tool archive. The product folder also links software made available through the LGPL. The LGPL package is not needed to execute the TPS6598x Configuration Tool.

    Scott
