TPS65987D: Supply Switch Over for dead battery mode

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987,

Hi,

In chapter of "Supply Switch Over" in TPS65987 datasheet, it mentioned that the supply from will be switched from VBUS to VIN_3V3 automatically after VIN_3V3 become available.  So, this would happen before dead battery flag, right?  So, what is the risk if dead battery flag is not cleared afterward?

Thanks!

Antony

  • Hello Antony,

After speaking with our systems engineers, if voltage is applied on VBUS before VIN_3V3, the dead battery flag will be set. Once voltage is applied to VIN_3V3, the internally circuitry will switch to this being the main supply, but the dead battery flag will still need to be cleared. If the dead battery flag is not cleared, then the functionality of the TPS65987D will be limited. For example, while the dead battery flagged is present, the TPS65987D will not be able to act as a source and will reject any power role swaps.
