HI,

We are planning to use SN75LVDS83BDGG to convert our RGB data from our microcontroller to LVDS signals. From microcontroller, we are taking 16-bit RGB data. If we give that 16-bit input to SN75LVDS83BDGG, Whether I will get 4 channel output or not? We are planning to use 4 channel LCD.

Please suggest whether we can use this part for my requirement? If we can use is there anything to be taken care of in the design stage?

Hi Shafeeq,

If you use 16-bits you will only get 3 channels output. Whether that is okay or not depends on your LCD, but you will not get the full color depth of your LCD with only 16-bits. You can reference this application note to learn how these devices are mapped: www.ti.com/.../snla014a.pdf.

Thanks for your reply. In the application note and datasheet, it only describes about 18 bit. As I said we are planning to connect 16 bit. If we connect 16 bit can we able to get 6bit output. If we are able to get 6 bits, in the input side which and all data pins we have to connect to ground.

Hi Shafeeq,

I can't tell you how to connect the pins as it is system dependent and depends on your LCD. You can reference Figure 1 in the SN75LVDS83B datasheet. This is how the inputs are mapped to the serialized outputs. You need to correlate this with your LCD input, and then connect any unused inputs to ground.
