SN65176B: SN765176B transmission distance problem

Part Number: SN65176B

Hello

RS485 signal transmission distance is up to 1km in theory. I would like to know, what is the actual transmission distance of the customer using TI SN65176 and the RS485 communication is normal?

Regarding RS485 signal gamma-transport distance, it is related to the following points:

1. RS485Cable

2. Work environment

3. Adjust Bus I/O port, A/ B pull up resistance and matching impedance.

Are there any other reasons?

Best Regards

Leon

  • Hi Leon,

The maximum achievable distance for a given data rate will depend on the transceiver design (transmitter output amplitude and receiver input sensitivity), the cable characteristics (DC resistance and AC loss profile), termination values/placement, overall network topology (daisy chained versus star/tree, etc.), and the jitter tolerance of the UART used for communication.

Section 9 of this app note gives a good summary of how these different factors can limit RS-485 data transmission length at different rates:

Please let us know if you have any further questions on this.
