TUSB321: Legacy cable

Part Number: TUSB321

Dear *,

1)

if a legacy USB C to A cable is used, what will be the output on OUT1 and OUT2 from TUSB321 in UFP mode?

If i understand correctly the legacy cable should have the pull-up 56k to 5V VBUS resistors molded in the type-c end ?

2)Page 11 in datasheet  in table 2 , how can the TUSB321 know if it is connected to USB2.0 or USB3.0 legacy port ?

Or if a legacy (56k)-> assume that the Host can deliver 500mA, and later if the u-processor detects USB3.0 then allow current 900mA?

3) if a standard type-c to type c cable is used and the HOST is either USB2.0 or USB3.0 ( TUSB321 on DFP side has current_mode low to GND)

How can the device UFP tell that the host is 500mA or 900mA capable, or is it to assume that the host is 500mA capable and later the if the device u-processors recognizes USB3.0 connection then allow the 900mA current?

Br,

David.

  • 1: if a legacy USB C to A cable is used, output on OUT1 and OUT2 from TUSB321 in UFP mode will be default.
2: TUSB321 don't know if it is connected to USB2.0 or USB3.0 legacy
3: UFP can't tell that the host is 500mA or 900mA capable
