TPS65987D: Remove battery and how to set USB PD to allow VBUS apply power to system

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610

Dear TI:

Use TPS65987D APP customize software to set  USB PD as a sink device, and  the Li-ion battery connect to my PCBA, then plug USB-C to charge battery is OK,

But if remove the battery from my PCBA, then plug the USB -C can't output voltage from USB PD IC to charge IC (BQ24610) to apply power for system .

I study the dead battery setting, and I can't understand how to set it if the battery power is low or remove the battery situation.

Could you inform me which parameter is wrong in USB PD TPS65987D?

  • Hi Sophia,

To support dead battery mode, please check your ADCIN1 pin strapping to ensure it is set to the "BP_No_Wait" setting. This would allow the PD controller to boot from the SPI Flash when there is no VIN_3V3 present. The TPS65987D would boot from VBUS power in this case.

    Thank you,
    Eric

  • Dear Eric:

    Thanks for the reply.

circuit already set the R1/R2=10K / 100K  value and when the Li-ion battery removed from circuit,

the USB PD still can't output power for BQ24610 Charge IC.

  • Hi Sophia,

Please double check your configuration settings in your .PJT file. The settings in your .PJT file should match your hardware. Please ensure that the configured sink switch is the correct switch in your system and that you have valid sink capabilities configured.

    Thank you,
    Eric
