TPS65981: Interface forum

Part Number: TPS65981

Hello,

In tps65981 there is  no such intelligence required on the Host side to flip signals based on cable orientation. It is required to provide standard 15V power to slave side.It would be fine even if we have fixed connections to type C receptacle, so that slave device shall work when connected in any one orientation (not necessarily on both orientation).

so my questions are-

1)should we still  use TPS65981 on Host side ? OR can we only provide pull-ups on CC1 & CC2 of type C receptacle (A5 / B5 of Type C) ?

2) want to know if TPS65981 provides power link only if voltages levels in sections 7.8(datasheet) is satisfied without any standard Type C communication on CC pins ?

below find breif block diagram of the two boards around Type C power delivery.

regards,

badal

  • Hello Badal,

If you would like the Source TPS65981 to provide 15V over VBUS, you will need another TPS65981 on the sink side to negotiate the high voltage contract and begin sinking 15V from the source. Tying the CC lines by a resistor only works if you would like to sink 5V/3A.
