TPS65981: Can 2 pairs of D+/D- signal bypass TPS65981

Part Number: TPS65981
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65983B, TPS65987D

Hi team,

My customer is searching for a PD controller device for a Type C connector. The power role of the product is only sink. We promoted TPS65983B. But customer only wants to use the PD controller part inside TPS65983B. And they want to connect the 2 pairs D+/D- signal from Type-c connector to the MCU instead of 65983B. So I just want to check with you if this is doable? Is the 'high speed mux' part functionally related to the 'PD controller' part? Can we leave the  'high speed mux' part unused?

What's more, do we have any other device that only has the PD controller without integrating USB data mux? Thanks.

Best regards,

Wayne

  • Hi Wayne,

The TPS65983B is only permitted for use in TBT device designs that follow an Intel reference design. For this application, I would recommend our latest PD controller, the TPS65987D. The D+/D- lines do not need to be connected to the PD controller and can be routed around the TPS65987D if desired.
