TPS65983B: Configuration Questions

Part Number: TPS65983B

Hi,

My customer has the following question:

"I’ve been working with Intel’s Tapex Creek development kit to investigate using TBT. The dev kit uses the TI TPS65983B PD and I’m interested to configuring the device in a way that is not available in the Application Customization 4.10 tool. There are two changes we’d like to make to the PD to better suite our applications.

The first we’d like to enable the USB_R port to pass the USB2 signal to a downstream device when plugged into a non-TBT, USB port. When connected now the PD is posting that it is connected as a billboard device to a USB port.

Second, we’d like to configure a 2 PD device that prefers to sink power from a host. It looks like I can only do Bus powered with a signal device in the App Custom 4.10.

Let me know if these two configuration are possible and what tools would be need."

Thank you and I look forward to your feedback.

  • Hi Chuchen,

The TPS65983B is constrained to work with Intel Thunderbolt reference designs. The '83B application configuration tool is also limited to the permitted changes for these designs.

Because of these constraints, it is not possible to make additional changes.

    Regards,
    Scott
