SN75LVDS387: Decoupling capacitors

Part Number: SN75LVDS387

Is it recommended to use duplicate groups of bypass capacitors (e.g. 0.1 uF and 0.001 uF, as calculated in the part datasheet for a specific design requirement) for each Vcc-GND pin pair? For the SN75LVDS387, this would mean a total of 6 groups of capacitors.

If it is acceptable to use fewer than 6, are there specific pins on the SN75LVDS387 that are preferred for bypassing?

  • Hello Jason,

Having 6 groups would be best, but if you want to reduce the number of caps, then the next best thing would be to use 3 groups, since the SN75LVDS387 has 3 groups of 2 VCC+2 GND pins that are adjacent to each other (one group of caps for pins 1,2,3,4, another for pins 15, 16, 17, 18, and another for pins 29,30,31,32). Section 5.5 of the LVDS Owner's Manual ( www.ti.com/lit/ug/snla187/snla187.pdf ) has some more details that you can look at.
