Dear Team,

The customer mentioned they need to add an additional circuit to have the ability to have surge 2kV protection.

Do we have UART to RS-422 with a surge protector(2kV)?

Hello,

For RS-422 with IEC 61000-4-5 surge protection up to 2.5 kV, please see THVD1429. Note that the MAX3232 device that you mentioned actually supports RS-232 rather than RS-422, though. Were you looking for an RS-232 transceiver?

I need RS-422, but THVD1429 seems support RS-485?

Kevin,

THVD1429 will meet RS-422 requirements as well. Actually, most RS-485 transceivers will support RS-422 since the physical layer definitions are so similar. (As a newer standard, RS-485's requirements can mostly be considered a "superset" of RS-422's.)
