HD3SS3220: Mux did not switch for DFP mode design with HD3SS3220...

Part Number: HD3SS3220

Dear Sirs,

My customer use HD3SS3220 to design as DFP mode with attached schematics.

However, after testing, they found the mux cannot work well.

There is only one side(flip oriental) can be detected as USB3.0, other side always is USB2.0.

measured CC1/CC2/DIR and they are:

   Pass: CC1=0.5V CC2=4.7V DIR=3.3V

   Fail: CC1=4.7V CC2=0.5V DIR=3.3V

It seems the CC1/CC2 detect is OK but mux did not work.

We also refer to DFP dongle reference design of below link,

http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sllu237a/sllu237a.pdf

and found the TX/RX connection between 3220 to type-C receptacle connector / 3220 to USB host are different.

Is that the root cause for the issue?

Please help to give me some suggestion.

Thanks.

For DFP application, VBUS can only go high after CC pin detection and debounce. I see from the schematic that VBUS_DET is connected directly to VBUS1, is VBUS1 off when you are doing the CC pin detection?

What is the definition for UPHY_TX1_P/N and UPHY_RX1_P/N? Is TX being defined as transmitter and RX being defined as receiver?

You may need to remove C670 and C671, and change C664 and C665 to 330nF, but it first depends on how UPHY_TX and UPHY_RX is being defined.

    Thanks
    David
