DS80PCI102: DS80PCI102 maximum temperature

Part Number: DS80PCI102

I'm trying to estimate junction temperature of DS80PCI102. Although max temp is 125, datasheet recommends ambient temp to 85. My calculation gives me estimated increase in junction to board temp of only 1.5, with power consumption of 65 mW per channel (I'm using both input and output channels). Can you tell me why is the recommended ambient temp so low?

Thanks

Srdjan

  • Hello-

The DS80PCI102 is an industrial grade device (a device that can operate across the -40C to 85C temperature range). Industrial grade devices are suitable for most DS90PCI102 applications. The device reliability, performance, and all electrical specifications provided in the device datasheet are based on this temperature range.

If a higher grade (e.g. automotive) of this device is needed, please contact your local TI sales representative.

  • Hello-

To elaborate a bit further, if a device is advertised as an industrial grade device, then the recommended operating temperature range is from -40C to 85C regardless of the device power consumption.  As previously stated, all electrical parameters specified in the datasheet are based on that temperature range. If operating outside of this range, we cannot guarantee parameter limits.

Given the low power consumption of the DS80PCI102 and its Abs Max rating, there is definitely room for this device to be qualified for a higher grade (i.e. higher temperature range) of operation.  However, that has not been done yet. The qualification process requires additional testing and potential change of some parameter limits.

If there is a need for a higher grade of the DS80PCI102, we will definitely consider it.  Thus my suggestion to contact your local TI sales representative.
