TPS65981: Does TPS65981 need addtional switch for DP/USB3?

Part Number: TPS65981
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HD3SS460

Dear Team

My customer is asking whether TPS65981 need additional switch to support DP/USB3.

The additional switch my customer is considering is PS8743.

But my understanding is that TPS65981 has integrated the function of PS8743.

could you please help confirm this?

thank you

  • Hello Eric,

Yes, they will need an additional switch to support DP/USB3. The TPS65981 has a built in MUX, but only for the USB2.0 connections (D+/D-). There is a reference diagram shown within the datasheet highlighted below. You can try to push a TI solution of the HD3SS460, or the latest variation of this part.
