TPS65987D: VIF setting

Part Number: TPS65987D

Hi

I'm testing PD with Ellisys.

I have some questions how to set by App Conf Tool.

1. I'd like to set "Higher Capability declared as No".

   I set 0x33 bit262 = 0 and 0x37 bit4:5 = 03. But the result is Yes.

How should I set 987D FW to set "Higher Capability declared as No"?

2.  I'd like to set "Chunking_Implemented declared as 0".

    I use 987D as PD3.0 supported.

Even if I set 0x42 like the following picture, the test result was "1".

How should I set 987D FW to set "Chunking_Implemented declared as 0"?

  • Hi,

    1. The PD device will set the Higher Capability bit in Sink_Capabilities for the vSafe5V Fixed Supply Power Data Object if there are additional Sink PDOs with higher minimal voltage. The VIF must set Higher_Capability_Set to match device behavior.

    2. The VIf spec states "If PD_Specification_Revision is not set to 2 (Revision 3.0), then this field shall be ignored by testers." The PD v 3 spec requires Chunking to be implemented for compatibility (reference see 2.3.2 Compatibility with Revision 2.0).

  • Hi Scott

    Thank you.

    1. Even if 987D has only 5V sink PDO, should I set the VIF should set Higher_Capability_Set to Yes?

    2. Is this mean 987D always support chunking and App Conf Tool cannot change this setting, right?

  • Hi,

    1. No, if there is no sink PDO greater than 5V, Higher_Capability_Set should be NO
    2. The Application Config tool can set PD spec supported (PD3 Configuration Register). Chunking is a requirement when PD rev 3 is active.

    Scott
  • Hi
    1. My application has only 5V sink PDO, but the read value is "Higher_Capability_Set = Yes" when I test by Ellisys tester.
    I set 0x33 bit262 = 0 and 0x37 bit4:5 = 03 by Application Cuatomization Tool.
Would you tell me how to set 987D is "Higher_Capability_Set = NO"?

    2. I understand Thank you.
  • Hi,

For 1, I agree. I see this behavior on my side too. I will investigate if there is an issue in the firmware. My recommendation to work around this issue is to set VIF with Higher_Capability = yes to match firmware behavior.

I will look into this and I will update when I have more information.

    Regards,
    Scott
