P82B715: Bus driver and level translation

Part Number: P82B715

Hello.

I understood from the datasheet that the Sx and Lx are independant of the Vcc P82B715.

I have a 3.3V I2C bus (MCU) that I need to drive through a cable to a 5V I2C bus (temp sense).

I have the MCU signals (3V3) pulled-up to 3V3 and connect to a P82B715 Sx side (Vcc is 5V). The Lx side is pulled to 5V and goes to a 3m cable.

At the other end of the cable is another P82B715 (Vcc is 5V) connected on the Lx pins. My target temperature sensor is connected to the Sx pins with 5V pullups.

I have this system built and I see that the MCU pins are rising to 5V rather than the expected 3V3.

Can I use the device in this manner?

Thanks

Mark
