I finally have my RGMII -> 83869 -> 100B-FX -> 83869 -> copper Ethernet, system up and running (working very well BTW), but the LEDs on the 100B-FX -> copper Ethernet 83869 don't seem to be doing what they are supposed to be doing.
1) the copper Ethernet connection should be running at 100Mbs, a computer plugged into the port does in fact say it is running at 100Mbs, and its link speed light shows 100Mbs. But the 83869 LED that is by default supposed to be lit when the link is at gigabit(LED 1) is ON. When the cable is pulled all LEDS go off, so it is not stuck on. I checked the copper Ethernet traces going to the RJ-45 with a scope and they are definitely at 100Mbs.
2) when there is no appreciable network traffic the activity LED(LED 2) is flashing, but when there is appreciable traffic (playing music) the activity light is on solid, no visible blinking. The data sheet says the default blinking rate should be 5Hz, which should be quite visible. It looks like it is just turning on when a packet comes through, when packets are few and far between, I see blinking, when there is a steady stream it just looks continuously ON.
#1 is probably not that big a deal, but #2 is going to really drive customers crazy.
Thanks,
John S.
