TDP142: How to set EQ for unknown cable lengths

I am using the TDP142 in a sink application as an input driver to a FPGA. In my application I do not know how long the user supplied cable will be. How do I determine what to set the EQ setting to?

You can set the EQ of TDP142 to compensate the insertion loss of the trace between the connector and the TDP142, and let the FPGA RX equalizer handle the cable loss.
