TPS65987D: 20VBUS OVP response time and test waveform (internal and external path)

Hi expert,

My customer is asking for 20VBUS OVP response time of TPS65987D. As below link, Jim has asked and result is shown that over 24V condition has risk on customer application. We would like to know which level should be set for OVP level so that we can see over-voltage should not be over than 24V. Could you kindly help to provide test result and waveform for 20VBUS OVP(internal and external both)? Thanks a lot!!

Hi Ann,

The recommended setting is the default template setting. By Default, the OVP threshold is set to "Disconnect VBUS if voltage exceeds 5% of expected max". You can review the OVP results from the Power Path Performance and Protection app note: www.ti.com/.../slva994.pdf

Thanks for reply!! We know the setting but we think it should have some response time or delay when OVP occurs. Do you have OVP waveform could provide to us for reference? Thanks a lot!

Section 5 of the Power Path Performance and Protection App Note highlights some waveforms of OVP.

There is only 5Vbus, we would like to see 20VBUS OVP waveform. Would you kindly help to check if we have test waveform can provide to customer? Thanks!

Hi Ann,

The response time for a 20V VBUS would be the same. I believe that is what you were originally asking for. We do not have any captures with a 20V VBUS but if you have an EVM available, this would be an easy measurement to take yourself.
