TPS65988: TPS65988 thunderbolt I2Cs_IRQ questions

Dear,

My customer are using TPS65988DH with the Titan Ridge TBT, and I2C2 is used to communicate with thunderbolt.

There is one problem for the I2C2_IRQ problem, when set any of the interrupt mask for I2C2, the I2C2_IRQ will pulled low when there is nothing connected, which is abnormal, could you please give advice where should be checked in FW setting?

Hi John,

It sounds like you left the "Patch Loaded" I2C interrupt enabled. Please ensure this interrupt is disabled and it should resolve your issue.

For the interrupt, if it is triggered, the I2C2_IRQ will exist before clear it?

Hi John,

That is correct, as soon as the device is booted the patch loaded interrupt would be triggered.

Hi Eric,

I checked with customer, now the patch loaded interrupt is not used.
They have the Plug insert or Removal, and Data Status Update interrupt .
When insert the AC power supply, there will be constant low for I2C2_IRQ for some boards, but for the other boards, the I2C2_IRQ is low for a period and then be pulled high.
So which behavior is normal, and what will be the possible reason for the two different result?

Hi John,

The interrupt pin would go high directly after the patch is loaded and the "Patch Loaded" interrupt is not used.
I would suggest checking that the patch and configuration are correctly loaded onto the PD controller.

Hi Eric,

Can I check the 0x2D resistor bit10(below) to verify if the patch is loaded successfully?

Besides, the question now is when insert the power, some board has low output for I2C2_IRQ2, while others will turn to low and then high afterwards, which on is normal and what other reasons or any other things we need check?

Hi John,

Yes, that bit can be referenced to see if the patch has loaded correctly.
The normal behavior would be for the IRQ line to go high after booting. The IRQ line is active low. If the IRQ line remains low then there is an active interrupt.
