TPS65987D: design question for TPS65987D

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA300, LM5176,

Hi,

My customer is having below design question for the docking design:

Can you help to confirm below questions from RD?

1. Can we share the same PDO GPIO to control the feedback configuration of power converter and the back-to-back MOSFET of external power path at the same time?

2. For using INA300 as the current of external power path, what is the GPIO and related event we need to use for TPS65987DDH? Is there a limitation to used specific GPIO? Or we can use any of them?

3. How do we shut down the external power path after the over current signal is send from INA300?

4. We are now planning to use 5 PDO(5, 9, 12, 15, 20V) at the same time with one LM5176. Since there is only 4 GPIO are for PDO, can we used “Source Power Greater Than threshold” event to send control signal out to external power path? (to set the threshold at 19V)

Can you get some capture about how to set these things up in the configuration tool?

Great thanks for your help.

  • Hello:

    1. A GPIO Event can only be assigned to one GPIO at a time. You cannot assign the same GPIO event to multiple GPIOs.

    2. There is a "Fault Event" GPIO event that can be used as an input to the TPS65987D when the INA300 trips the overcurrent condition

    3. The "Fault Event" GPIO will automatically disable the power paths.

    4. You can use the truth table GPIO events to enable this behavior using less GPIOs.

    Thank you,
    Eric
