TPS65983B: Another Cable Detection Problem

Part Number: TPS65983B

This is a copy of what  tagged onto someone elses post descrbing what appears to be the same problem we're seeing, We have a preproduction board (Alek Creek based design) which only works when CC1 is used for detection (we're the UFP), if the cable is flipped and CC2 is used it work works fine the first time but if you then unplug & replug CC2 appears to be at a very low voltage and VBUS never gets switched on.  After a few hours unplugged and it will work again.  Attached  is what our CC2 looks like at plug-in.  If we measure resitance of CC2 to gnd we get a value in the low hundreds of ohm in the unplugged state, we are an Alek Creek design and I have removed the cap and diode attached to the CC2 line to make sure it was neither of those components.

  • Nevermind, surprisingly (at least to me) it's the connector. I cut the trace to isolate the TP65983B & connecotr fully epecting the short to remain on the TPS65983B side. Can't see hw the connector has a sort-of-short to ground but that's not your problem :)
