Hi Patrick,

Are you designing for the Host side or the device side?
If you are doing a device design, you must follow an Intel TBT device reference design using the TPS65983B. If you are designing a host system, you can use the TPS65987D.

Customer use TPS65983B so need follow intel TBT reference design. Do we have FW code of TPS65983B for TBT reference design to customer? Thank you.

Hi Eric,

i learned that in Thunderbolt 3, the TPS65983B FW is defer to Intel but we got Intel feedback below. Can you look at Intel feedback about TPS65983B FW? thanks.

For SPI flash, you can merge TBT NVM and TI FW (TPS65983B) into one image. Currently TI87 is not certified, you can using 83B. For detail, you may check with TI.

2 more questions about TPS65983 FW.

Can TPS65983 FW merge into TBT EEPROM and customer don't need to program FW in TPS65983?
Can TPS65983 supporting in system online update TBT EEPROM FW?

Hi Peter,

1. Yes, intel has a tool that will take the Full flash image from the 83B and the FW from the ridge and merge it into one image that can be programmed onto the shared SPI Flash.

2. Yes, intel has a tool for this as well. I would suggest asking them for more information on it.
