TCA9509: Question about I2C master on B side of TCA9509

Part Number: TCA9509

Hi,

I am using TCA9509 as a 3.3V to 1.8V I2C translation buffer. The I2C master is at 3.3V levels and is connected to B side of TCA9509. Since all the examples in the TCA9509 data sheet show the master on the 1.8V (or A side), I wanted to confirm that there is no potential issue using B side of part as master.

Thanks,

Mitch

  • Hi Mitch,

Communication through the device is bidirectional, so the master could be on either side without issue. (The device itself is "analog" in nature and just buffers the signals; it doesn't have a concept of the I2C protocol.) Just make sure you stay within the specified operating voltage ranges for each respective side.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Best regards,
    Max
