TPS65987D: USB-C to Displayport by alternate mode without software

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01620, TUSB1064, TPS65981, , 10G-EXPANSION-EVM

Hi, community member.

I want to make a board just like TIDA-01620, conversion from USB-C to DisplayPort.

But, it is difficult for me to develop software for MSP430 micro-contollers, because I'm not software engineer.

If I use TSUB1064 and TSP65987D, Can I make a USB-C to DisplayPort board without software as below ?

  1. Main devices: TUSB1064, TSP65987D, SPI-FLASH

2.Make a binary file with tool "TPS65981_2_6_7_8 Application Customization 5.13". and write to SPI-FLASH.

New project / template type: standard /  Upstream Facing Port only / Super Speed controller : None (DisplayPort only)

Edit Configuration Mode TAB, especially GPIO for matching with schematic.

If you say, I will need more process and settings to contol this board by firmware,  I have to change my idea.

The purpose of this board is only internal use, not for production.

Input : USB-C /  Output: DisplaytPort  (UFP only)

Power Delivery: 5V 1.5A for supplying to  these devices by  3.3V

 Maximum resolution: 4k 60p or FHD 144kHz

Now I don't have these devides or evaluation boards.

I want to decide to start or give up this project by this answer.

Best regards

  • Hello,

You can use the Standard UFP Template for the TPS65987D to meet your requirements. I would suggest testing your application with the TPS65987EVM + 10G-EXPANSION-EVM to confirm that it meets your expectations. You do not need an external processor for this use case.

    Thank you,
    Eric
