DS90UB949-Q1EVM: DS90UB949 display issue when using in non standard display issue

Part Number: DS90UB949-Q1EVM

customer goes DS90UB949/948 EVM as the serializer and de-serializer pair. customer reported there is no display issue on DS90UB948 if goes with standard display format(like 1080p/720p) in EDID EEPROM for DS90UB949.

if goes with non-standard display format(like 1920x720) in EDID EEPROM for DS90UB949, there is a display problem in DS90UB948 in LVDS panel.

Question

Does the DS90UB949 supporting standard display format only and not support any non-standard display format(like 1920x720)?

  • Hello Peter,

949 can support any non-standard display format. Please verify the timing parameters being used are correct for your display panel.

  • Hello

    Further action:
Need TI help to clarify why the burned EDID table chaged after read from EEPROM through evm 949.

    Note:
If the EEPROM value is 1280x720 resolution, the EDID value could read from EEPROM normally.

    Why:
Need to use evm 948+949 to project video to 12.3 inch panel via HDMI cable.

    What:
Need to store Panel EDID in EEPROM. EDID resolution is 1920x720. EDID table could refer to attached zip file (Unzip pw: fit)

    How:
    1. Burn EDID table in a 256 bytes EEPROM and then mount on evm 949.
    2. Update the evm 949 setting to use external EEPROM instead of internal SDRAM. (Refer to 1.jpg)
    3. Power on evm 948+949 and hdmi connect to 12.3 inch panel and PC.

    Expected Result:
The video could ouput to panel due to corresponding EDID table 1920x720. (Refer to 2.jpg)

    Actural Result:
The video could not ouput to panel due to EDID table unsync.
Refer to our log data, the EDID table updated to 1280x720 resolution. (Refer to 3.jpg).

  • Hello Patrick,

The EDID folder that you provided is password protected so I can not view the file. Also it looks like it is in BIN format which I don't believe I can view. Can you please provide it in some other format?

    Best Regards,

    Casey

  • Hello Casey

Unzip password: fit. I need to check customer has other format or not. Could you help provide some comments for this issue?Thank you.

  • Also I would suggest trying to strap MODE_SEL1 for internal HDMI control, so set MODE_SEL1 switch to "2"
