TUSB4020BI: Does TUSB4020BI work as standalone?

Part Number: TUSB4020BI
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9261

Hello,

Does TUSB4020BI work as standalone?

I would like to know whether USB host requires anything rather than control signal on DP/DN, especially whether any signals are needed on SMBSCL/SMBSDA.

If TUSB4020BI need any other signals, what signals do other pins require from USB host?

I conclude other input signal isn't needed from USB host by reading datasheet, is it correct?

・Customer's condition

No configuration of vendor ID

TUSB4020BI is used for host system.

In case of TUSB9261, I would like to know whether USB host requires anything rather than signal on DP/DN.

It is connected with TUSB4020BI asked above and transceive only USB high-speed.

Regard,

Hideki Hayashi

  • Hi,

TUSB4020BI can work "standalone" only needing DP/DM from the host. SMBus or I2C mode can be used to configure TUSB4020BI registers listed in sections 8.6 Register Maps of the datasheet. This information is not required to come from USB Host but can come from EEPROM, for example.

TUSB9261 can work standalone however configuration through the SPI interface is required through some means, EEPROM etc.

How do you plan to interface TUSB4020BI and TUSB9261? TUSB4020BI only has a USB 2.0 interface while TUSB9261 only have a USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface. The two are incompatible. you may consider using TUSB8020BI which has the USB 3.0 interface necessary to use TUSB9261 as a downstream device.
  • Hi Malik-san,

We are confusing about TUSB9261 USB2.0 operation.

I found the following E2E session. It descript as "The TUSB9261 will support USB 2.0 operation".

I think, TUSB9261 can work with USB2.0. if I'm misunderstanding, please let me know your correction.

  • Hi,

My apologies the last post was incorrect. You configuration will work as described. However TUSB9261 still needs to be configured through the SPI interface.
