LX16EVK01: Serial bit stream format during bist mode

I am planning to purchase an LX16EVK01 since I need to develop a project with the DSLX1621/LX1622. I do not have a source for the parallel data available yet but am getting one. I would like to run BIST on the eval kit.

1. Does BIST mode use the serial bit stream format described in page 25 of the LX1621/LX1622 datasheet while running?

2. What is the PRBS data used during BIST?  Is it pseudo random or do you use a set of 16 bit data patterns?

3. Do I need to use I2C intructions to start BIST mode do I just need to control the BISTEN, LOCK, and MODE signals as described in page 32 datasheet?

4. Do you have any additional information you can share pertaining to using BIST mode? The datasheets are brief on this topic, which I understand since this is not their main purpose.The LX16EVK01 user guide is even more brief on this topic.

    Hi Ted,

    1. Yes, the DS92LX1622 receives data in 28-bit symbols.
    2. I believe it is PRBS7.
    3. You can just do it with the instructions provided on page 32 of the datasheet, as you mentioned.
    4. I don't believe additional information is really necessary. BIST is just a quick and easy way to test the high-speed serial and bidirectional control channel link.

    I am satisfied with the answers for question 2-3. On question 1:
    I wanted to know if the serializer creates the 28bit formated data as the deserializer expects when running in BIST mode. I just want to verify that the serializer does not use a special format to pass data to the deserializer during bist mode. If you can clear this up for me, that should be enough to resolve my questions. Thank you.

    Yes, since these devices must be used as a pair the serializer would need to format data in the way the deserializer expects, BIST or no BIST.
