XIO2001: XIO2001 is power off while the link partner is power on case

Part Number: XIO2001

Hello,

Now my customer is considering to use XIO2001 with AM572x processor which is the PCIe link partner.

And to support a kind of energy saving mode in the system, they are considering to power OFF XIO2001 while AM572x is powered ON.

I’m not so familiar with PCIe specification. But is this condition allowed for XIO2001?

Oba

  • Hi Oba-san,

I found a previous discussion about this here you can reference: e2e.ti.com/.../2149447

  • Hello I.K,

Thanks for your reply and I'm sorry for my late response.
I read the post you mentioned. It discussed how to establish PCIe link between XIO2001 and AM572x if XIO2001 is powered up later.
    It is helpful information.

But before that, I want to confirm whether there is no damage risk to XIO2001 during XIO2001 is powered off and AM572x powered on.
I think basically if all input signals doesn't exceed absolute max rating in the below figure, it will not be damaged.

But I have one question on this table. RX absolute max is -0.6 to 0.6 V. Is this correct?
I'm not familiar with PCIe at all, but I feel 0.6V is too small voltage for absolute max.
And it is constant value and doesn't depend on VDD or other power supply. Is it also correct?

  • Correct, the device won't be damaged as long as the input signals don't exceed the absolute max ratings. The values in the table are correct and do not depend on Vdd unless specified.

  • OK, I think I understand.

So that mean we don’t need to care about PCIe TX signal from AM572x(RX signal in XIO2001), and all other input signals have be cared to be sure within absolute max during XIO2001 is powered off and AM572x is powered on.

    Correct?

    Oba

  • All input signals, including PCIe RX, should be within absolute max and absolute min specified to avoid potential damage to the device.

    I.K.
