DS90UB949-Q1EVM: DS90UB949-Q1EVM

Part Number: DS90UB949-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP

Hello. I'm working with the DS90UB949-Q1EVM to test a DES product that includes basically the images source. So, I'm using the Pattern Generator of the Analog Launch PAD that have 16 Patterns pre-loaded but I would like to load my own image (e.g. a chessboard with predefined pixel size squares). Could you explain if I can do it? is there a manual to config the custom image? can I change it "on-the-fly" in order to verify several images? Additional, how can I configure frequency and keep it (e.g. 50 or 60 Hz)? Thanks in advance for your support.

  • Hello Mauricio,

Unfortunately the 949 does not allow programming of custom patterns beyond those 16 pre-loaded ones that you referred to. As for refresh rate, it depends on what mode you are in. If you are using PATGEN with internal timing and internal pixel clock, there are only discrete PCLK frequencies that can be generated by the device based on an internal clock which gets divided down. The ALP GUI should show you these in the PATGEN tab. If you use PCLK with internal timing and external clock, the refresh rate is totally dependent on what PCLK frequency you provide to the part.

  • I was afraid about your expected answer regarding the images. As an alternative, I think I can use the HDMI interface that I already tried to use . The problem I'm facing is that not able to configure the correct resolution for my screen (1920 X 1200). If you have any idea or have done in anyway, I'll appreciate if you can share it. Thanks for the support
  • Hello Mauricio,

What is your HDMI source and what specifically is the trouble you are having with configuration?

  • Hello Casey. My HDMI source is my own computer, so I tried to use the HDMI port by configuring my NVIDIA board to recognize the HDMI port as an extended display. My trouble is that I'm not able to configure correctly the resolution (which is 1920 x 1200) cause the defaults ones does not fit this resolution. When I tried to customized the resolution, the image does not fit the display size and color is not correct. If you know how to configure it, please let me know. Otherwise, you can advice about anyway to source my own customized images. Thanks again for your support.
  • Hello Mauricio,

You need to load the EDID from the screen into the 949 in order for the source to recognize it as a supported display resolution when it is plugged in. Please consult the 949 datasheet for information on different ways to load the EDID.
