DS280BR810: Data rate

Part Number: DS280BR810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS250DF810, DS80PCI810, DS280DF810, DS125DF1610

Is there a minimum data rate for this part or its Retimer sister?  We would like to run around 3.125G.

  • Hi Michael,

Since the DS280BR810 is a redriver, there is no minimum data rate requirement.

Is there a particular reason you are using the DS280BR810? I'm curious about whether a lower-speed device would make more sense here.

  • Michael,

Thanks. I'm not exactly sure why my customer wanted me to use this part. They apparently did their homework, but I'm open to exploring other options. Do you have a suggestion? Also, does the lack of a minimum clock also apply to the DS250DF810 Retimer? It looks like that one needs a reference clock, but I can't find anywhere in the docs where it specifies a minimum. Thanks.
  • HI Michael,

If you are looking for a simple redriver supporting 3.125 Gbps, there are lower speed options for 8-channels such as the DS80PCI810 that can redrive signal data rates up to 8 Gbps with high linearity.

Regarding the DS280DF810, there are some limitations to the supported data rate. The supported data rates are limited to data rates the VCO can support and the corresponding divide-by rates. The DS280DF810 has a VCO range supporting 20.2-28.4 Gbps and divide-by-2 and divide-by-4 data rates. This means that 3.125 Gbps is well below the lowest VCO supported data rate (20.2 Gbps and divide-by-4).

For 3.125 Gbps, I would suggest taking a look at the DS125DF1610 (only use 8 channels). It supports 9-12.5 Gbps with divide-by-2, 4 , and 8 support.

    Thanks,

    Michael
