DS250DF410: Re-timer for 25G SFP application

Part Number: DS250DF410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS250DF230

Hi Team,

we are working on one of our client project. they need two 25G SFP connector in the design. we are planing to add re-timer (DS250DF410) in to the design. the question is whether we need two devices or if it is sufficient with one. Please suggest.

attached block diagram for reference.

Thanks,

Tamil

  • Hi,

The implementation per your block diagram should be correct. A single DS250DF410 device may be able to handle both the ingress and egress electrical signals from two SFP+ modules. The one challenge here is that the DS250DF410 is a 4-channel uni-directional device (i.e. all channel input pins are on one side of device, While the channel output pins are on the opposite side.) This might make the routing a bit more complicated than ideal but it should be feasible.

An alternative implementation would be to use two DS250DF230 2-channel retimers. This way one DS250DF230 device could be used for ingress signals, and the other DS250DF230 for egress signals. Or, one DS250DF230 could be used per SFP+ port.
