TPS65988: TPS65988 QUERIES

Part Number: TPS65988
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-010047

Hi,

I am using TPS65988 for a specific application. I have attached here a PPT detailing my application as well as the TPS65988 related Queries.

Also, I have attached my Schematics for TPS65988. Please provide your response as soon as possible, since I have to use it for the current build happening at mid of June.

  • Hello Jones,

This application will not work. How our part is intended to work is that when it is acting as a dedicated source, which your application seems to be doing, then we are controlling to voltage being sourced by connecting directly to a DCDC converter. You can refer to any of our EVMs (TPS65988EVM TPS65987DEVM) In your application, you are wanting to connect a Type-C wall adapter to your system, and then that wall adapter feed through your board, and source a phone. You should try to incorporate the wall adapter or power bank entirely, and just have your device act as a dedicated source. You can refer to the following design guides as reference.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the response. Below plz find my Queries,

    1. When there is no Power bank connected to the TPS65988 inputs,, HOST phone will provide power to my Board (VBUS usb cable)

    2. When POWER BANK connected to TPS65988 inputs,

    a) TPS65988 - VBUS2 output will source my board such that the logic selected in Power mux switch

    b) TPS65988 - VBUS1 output will be negotiated by the HOST phone after the power swap and the phone will be charging now..

    Here my queries are,

    * The VBUS1 output will be negotiated and CC pins connected to the HOST phone

    * The VBUS2 output just connected to the Board power and there is no negotiation. My assumption is it will provide 5V/3A by default if I short the C2_CC1 & C2_CC2

    * I am connecting the PP_HV1 inputs directly to Power bank. Do I need a port controller here so that TPS65988 should know what power it should draw ???

  • Hi Adam, Can you please suggest a TI power delivery solution for my Application?

  • Hi Adam, can you please recommend a solution for our application. Using Port controller and PD IC's ?

  • Hello,

Mitchell had reached out to me this afternoon with your latest schematic/implementation. I gave my feedback within that document, and recommend you get in touch with him to get my feedback. I'm going to close this thread, but feel free to open another thread with any other questions you may have in regards to my comments on your second proposal.
