TPS65987DDJ: How to set the negotiated current to the input current of BQ25703A ?

Part Number: TPS65987DDJ
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25703, BQ25703A, TPS65987

The current design is TPS65987DDJ + BQ25703;

How to set the negotiated current to the input current register of BQ25703A ?

From this Application Customization Tool, it only set a few fixed current .

In this way, multiple adapters cannot be compatible and the maximum power output of the adapter can't be achieved.

So, how to set the actual negotiated current into bq25703 ?

  • Hello,

    The sink capabilities that our devices sends out includes a current range, and not a fixed current value. So you can change the current range to what is appropriate for your application

  • Hi Adam,
    Thanks for your reply.
    In our application, multiple adapters need to be compatible, and we don't known the source capabilities of the adapter which our customer will use .So we have to let the Tps65987 get the maximum source capabilities of each adapter, and set it into BQ25703A.

    According to your suggestion, the operating current range for us is OK , 3A is enough. But maybe the adapter only source up to 1A capabilities, we need set this value to BQ25703.

    In my understanding:
    The Tps65987 sends a current range to the adapter. They will negotiated a precise current value which the maximum source capabilities of the adapter, and can i set this value to BQ25703A by using the Application Customization Tool directly?
  • Hello ZhiYi,

    If you have not already done so, I recommend that you read through the following app note, especially section 4 which walkthrough how to implement a battery management controller. Believe that it will answer your questions.
