SN65HVD251: Could you have a good device to replace MC33901WEF?

Part Number: SN65HVD251

Hi team,

My customer would like to use SN65HVD251 to replace MC33901WEF. But they found the ESD of SN65HVD251 is not enough. Just IEC 61000-4-4, just 3KV.

But they need 6KV. IEC61000-4-2.

They also need the lowest speed <5Kbps.

Could you have a good device to meet this requirement?

Thanks!

  • Eggsy,

Do you mean IEC61000-4-2? IEC61000-4-4 is EFT, not ESD, and I don't see any reference to IEC61000-4-4 in the MC33901 datasheet.

If you mean IEC61000-4-2, then the TCAN1042V is the best replacement for the MC33901. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,

  • Hi Eric,

    Thanks for your help!

I saw TCAN1042 datasheet but found it the Data rates only down to 10 kbps but customer need 5 kbps, shown in below pic1.

The MC33901 datasheet shown ESD in below pic2.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • Eggsy,

Yes, just verifying that you were looking at IEC 61000-4-2 and not IEC 61000-4-4. Unfortunately, we don't have any devices that have the IEC ESD requirement AND the low data-rate capability. With dominant timeout, all of our newer CAN transceivers can't transmit lower than 10kbps.

Can the customer raise their data rate to 10kbps or higher? If they can, the TCAN1042 is a great candidate, with higher ESD protection relative to the MC33901. What kind of application requires that slow of a CAN bus?
