TPD1S514: TPD1S514

Part Number: TPD1S514

Hi team,

Thanks for your support.

I want use TPD1S514 to protect VBUS Protection, I have some concern with it,please help to confirm.

1.If the voltage on the VBUS is 6~8V, Does the TPD1S514 damage?

2.Does TPD1S514 have current limit?

3. I use the TPD1S514 as  a device in this application,it's only a UFP, the UFP connect with computer by cable, the input capacitance on VBUS is relative to the inrush current and overshoot when hot swap, I am not very clear whether the inrush current requirements for device in the 2.0 standard? please help to  confirm.

4.Could you give me some advice, how much the input capacitance on VBUS can meet he usb2.0 standard? 2.2uF on VBUS of USB, is it OK?

5.Since the package of TPD1S514 is BGA, Is there any other package? If not, please recommend other IC that can be replaced.

Look forward to your reply, thank you.

Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

Pls. find the comment for your question as below :

1.If the voltage on the VBUS is 6~8V, Does the TPD1S514 damage? --> No, this device have OVP function in the VBUS_CON pin

2.Does TPD1S514 have current limit? --> No, the device only support ON and OFF function for VBUS.

--> there is no inrush current requirement for 2.0 standard.

4.Could you give me some advice, how much the input capacitance on VBUS can meet he usb2.0 standard? 2.2uF on VBUS of USB, is it OK? --> there need 120uF output cap in the DFP for USB 2.0 standard.

5.Since the package of TPD1S514 is BGA, Is there any other package? If not, please recommend other IC that can be replaced.--> currently this device only have BGA package, if you want to choose other package , you can send us the detailed reqirement such as Package, current limit threshold, and so on then we can suggest the suitable device for your application. Thanks !

  •  Hi Michael,

    Thanks for your quick feedback.

For the question 3,maybe I miss the full name of standard, the full name is "Universal Serial Bus Specification Revision 2.0",

Could you help to double check, as a device in this application, it's only a UFP, the UFP connect with computer by cable, the input capacitance on VBUS is relative to the inrush current and overshoot when hot swap,

Whether the inrush current requirements for device in the Universal Serial Bus Specification Revision 2.0?

For the question 4,  I use it for a UFP, is there any requirement of the input capacitance on VBUS  for device in the Universal Serial Bus Specification Revision 2.0?

For the question 5,  I use it for a UFP, the host supply 500mA max.the requirement of IC as below,

    1.support hot swap

    2.current limit threshold

    3.short protect,OVP /UVP function

    4.meet the surge requirement of IEC/EN61000-4-4, IEC/EN61000-4-5,IEC/EN61000-4-6,IEC/EN61000-4-8,IEC/EN61000-4-11

    Thank you.

  • Hi Kevin,

It seem there not inrush current limit and input cap  requirement for the UFP.  Based on your project requirement we still suggest you choose the  TPD1S514  for your application.
