HD3SS3220: DFP operation after power-up, in I2C mode

Part Number: HD3SS3220
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB320

Hi Experts,

Our customer has a plan to use HD3SS3220 in I2C mode. Also, customer would like to set DFP mode when system power-up. According to Datasheet (7.3.1 DFP/Source – Downstream Facing Port), The HD3SS3220 can be configured as a DFP only by pulling the PORT pin high through a resistance to VDD, and then, TI recommends “8.2.3 Typical Application, DFP Port” implementation. However, MODE_SELECT in General Control Register(0xA0h) indicates DRF mode (Default). Therefore, I’d like to clarify it, just to be sure.

When PORT pin is implanted to high, Is HD3SS3220 device operating DFP mode after HD3SS3220’s Power-up, even if I2C mode?

My concern is that HD3SS3220 device is operating DRF mode in I2C mode until MODE_SELECT is set to DFP mode(2’b10).

I believe PORT pin takes first priority, however,  can we have your Expert’s comments on this, please?

Best regards,

Miyazaki
