TPS65987DDJ: PPHV OCP and RCP Behavior and Response Time

Part Number: TPS65987DDJ
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987D

Dear Team,

About OCP, what is the response time when PD detects OCP and turn off the internal MOSFET?

About RCP, there are comparator protection mode for source and ideal diode protection mode for sink.

How these two mode detect the reverse current and turn off the internal MOSFETT?

And what is the response time for each mode?

Thank you.

Jim

  • Hi Jim,

The Power Path performance and protection app note highlights the different responses of the OCP. Keep in mind that there is both HW and FW OCP in the TPS65987D and they will be enabled based on the type of OCP event. (Hard short Vs. Soft Short).

For RCP, the TPS65987D FW automatically selects the RCP mode based on the power path events. There is no need to worry about configuring this as the FW handles it automatically.

    Thank you,
    Eric
