DS90LV804: Please advice about LVDS bus termination

Part Number: DS90LV804

Hi Experts,

I want to know how to terminate the LVDS bus for input and output. Could you please advice it?

Regards,

Uchikoshi

  • Hi,

LVDS is generally used in point to point applications, one transmit device and one receiver device only.  In this condition there is no need to terminate at the transmit side of the link.  On the receive side it is typical to put a 100 Ohm differential termination resistor as close as possible to the LVDS receiver.  Some LVDS devices include the 100 Ohm termination resistor internally so no external termination is required.

In the case of the DS90LV804 there is a 100 Ohm termination resistor inside the device package.

  • Hello Uchikoshi-san,

If using AC-coupling, then in addition to the 100-ohm (which is integrated for LV804, as Lee mentioned), you need biasing to set the common mode.  You can use a resistor divider for this purpose.  Please refer to this application note for more details (but keep in mind that the 100-ohm is integrated for LV804):
