TPS65983B: I2C device keep sending out signal

Dear Sir.

We use TPS65983B for NB host side with Intel reference design get a problem.

The Intel side has always check interrupter with TPS65983B.

Tuning off the driver will fine. We has record I2C on attached file.

The TPS65983A_I2C_20190606 attached file is directly recorded.

TPS65983A_I2C_No INT resistance20190606 attached file is we remove series resistor on INT pin. But Intel side still check interrupter with TPS65983B.

When we read registers from 0x14 to 0x19, the size of them is 9. But as I know, the size of there registers is 10 with TPS65983B.

Do you have a new version of UCM driver for TPS65983B??

Hi AJ,

The TPS65983B is only recommended for use in TBT reference designs made by Intel. If you are not following a TBT reference design, another PD controller should be used. Which TBT reference design are you following?

Hi Aj,

The Interrupt pin is used by the TBT controller to determine the state of the USB-C Pin, it is not recommended to change this connection from the TBT reference design as this will prevent the TBT controller from updating correctly.

Dear Eric.

Good day.

My question is why Intel always confirms Interrupt through I2C when using the driver provided by TI.

It will be normal to remove the Driver. Even if I remove the series resistor from the Int pin, Intel will still confirm the Interrupt through I2C.

Hi AJ,

I'm not sure I fully understand the issue. The PD controller will send an I2C interrupt to the TBT controller, then the TBT controller will adjust its settings and clear the interrupt on the PD controller.

Since the TPS65983B has 2 I2C ports, I would suggest using the second I2C port to connect to your EC. This way the TBT controller will not clear an interrupt that was meant for the EC.
