TPS65988: datasheet clarifications

Part Number: TPS65988

1) If an external source is provided to the VIN_3v3 pin, does the "ILDO_3V3_EX" parameter, listed on Pg.8 of the datasheet still apply? Based on the various datasheet diagrams, I am lead to believe the 25mA maximum strickly applies when the LDO is the source, and no external source is on CIN_3v3 pin. If this is the case, then I suspect there is an upper limit on the current flowing through the switch and thus, what is this upper limit?

2) Also, related to the previous question, and on page 8. There is a bit of confusion on my part and I would like to get some clarification. ILDO_3V3_EX states max current is 25mA, but in the previous 2 parameters, it lists the Current Load as twice that at 50mA. I hope you can see my confusion and can provide some clarity.

3) Finally, I can't seem to find the GPIO Drive Level (aka IOL Low-Level Output Current or IOH High-Level Output Current). My hunch is, this is also related to the above questions, I.e. if using LDO is the source, then combined max is 25mA, but again, does that still apply the one you provide VIN_3v3.,

  • Hi Elisha Tarroza71,

1-) You are correct, if an external source is supplying VIN_3v3 the condition listed for the max load current ILDO_3V3_EX of 25 mA remains constant. Further more, the max input current for VIN_3v3 is 50 mA.

2-) I believe your confusion with the Current Load is caused by the parameter ILOAD. This parameter refers to the current load between VBUS and LDO_3v3 and current load between VIN_3v3 and LDO_3v3. The 25 mA max current for LDO_3v3 refers to the max current load that can be connected to this pin.

3-) Generally the GPIO Drive Level is on the order of 2-4 mA.

Thank you very much and I hope these helps clarifying your questions.
