SN65HVD33: confirmation about undershoot

Part Number: SN65HVD33
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD30

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering SN65HVD30 and SN65HVD33, so he has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

When I confirm the transmission line, D input become sometimes -1V (a few ns).

This voltage is over the absolute maximum rating(-0.3 to 6V).

I think there are protection diode in the device, undershoot energy flows to protection diode.

So overshoot(-1V with a few nano second) is no problem, is it correct?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Shinchi,

The overshoot (-1V) could turn on the PN junction of the protection diode, making some current be drawn from the ground. Considering the low frequency of the event, it should not raise big reliability concern. However if you want to stabilize the signal at D pin, you could add some decoupling capacitor from pin to ground.

    Regards,
