Auto MDIX vs 10/100/1000Base-T

Hi Team,

We have PHY , RJ45(it supports only 10/100/1000Base-T) Connector and PHY is configuired in MDI mode.

If we change RJ45(it supports Auto MDIX) connector and without changing PHY configurations.Is it works ?

What is the major difference in magentics of 10/100/1000Base-T and Auto MDIX. Please clarify?

    Hi Sasidhar,

    Is this a TI PHY? Without knowing the PHY, I can share only general details. If a PHY is rated for 10/100/1000Base-T and RJ-45 is also rated for 10/100/1000Base-T then they should work with each other. There are IEEE standards for 10/100/1000Base-T ethernet, so different vendors have to meet the specifications listed in the standards.

    Comparing magnetics of 10/100/1000Base-T and Auto-MDIX is not the right method. Auto-MDIX is a PHY feature where the PHY's mutually decide which channel is TX and which channel is RX during the auto-negotiation process. If a magnetics is rated for the correct operating speed then Auto-MDIX should work. 

    If you are using TI PHYs, the please share the part number and specific question about the operating speed and design requirements. This way we will be able to help you with specific answers.
