TUSB8041: About USB_VBUS (48pin)

Guru 21045 points
Part Number: TUSB8041

Hi Team,

We have three questions.

[Q1]

We would like to know a role of USB_VBUS (48pin).

We understand that USB_VBUS is used for Judgment of Battery Charging Modes.

Is my understanding correct?

[Q2]

We understand that if USB_VBUS is Open (so we don’t use Battery Charging),

TUSB8041 works normally so USB_DP_UP(53pin) and USB_DM_UP(54pin) are available.

Is my understanding correct?

[Q3]

Even if USB_VBUS voltage level is “4V <” or “4V >”, USB_DP_UP(53pin) and USB_DM_UP(54pin) are available.

Is my understanding correct?

Regards,

Kanemaru

  • Hello Kanemaru-san,

    1. Yes, VBUS is part of the judgement of battery charging modes, but is not the sole decider. It is also used to detect when an upstream port is connected
    2. You cannot leave VBUS open, you must connect it to VBUS of the upstream port through the voltage divider specified in the datasheet. The level of VBUS does not effect the DP/DM_UP pins, they are always available. Battery charging is only enabled on the downstream ports DM_DN[1:4] when the respective BATEN[1:4] pins are enabled.
    3. Upstream DP/DM will always be available.
