MAX3221: Valid RS232 levels

I have an application where I am using the MAX3221 solely to detect valid RS232 voltages and use the Invalid output to switch between different interfaces. As the drivers will not be used can I omit some or all of the charge pump capacitors in this configuration?

Paul,

It's an interesting idea. The receiver can work independently. I think your idea should work but personally I've never tried this myself.

My concern is whether the voltage thresholds for the input check are derived using any of the sources that use the capacitors.

Paul,

The receiver input threshold doesn't depend on these capacitors. Please let me know if you have more questions.
