Interface between the 1-wire protocol and HDQ protocol, is it possible?

Hello Texas Instruments.

Is it possible to perform communication intergration between a device that uses only the 1-Wire communication protocol and a device that uses the HDQ communication protocol?
Are both protocols compatible with each other in any way?

Thank you, the support.

  • Hey Rafael,

I am not an expert on HDQ however I did find an app note:

    www.ti.com/lit/an/slva101/slva101.pdf
This shows you can use UART and it also points out that a simple GPIO can be used to do this.

  • Hello Friend.

Thanks for your help, I had seen this document, but I really needed to know if there would be compatibility between the 2 protocols or some other form of communication between the two protocols.

  • Hey Raphael,

To me it looks like it would work if the bit rates were limited to the slowest limit (I think that is 1 wire protocol) but I do not have much experience with this so I will move this thread assignment internally to one of the Battery teams in TI who may know more about the HDQ protocol and if they are famillar with 1 wire protocol then they may be able to give you a solid yes/no answer you are looking for.

  • Hi Rafael,

I am not familiar at all with 1-wire, so I did a little research. It turns out 1-Wire and HDQ are completely different and are not compatible with each other.

If you do a quick google search of "1-wire vs. HDQ", there is lots of good information describing the differences and how to interface to both.

    Best regards,

    Matt
