TPS65987EVM: how to increase 5V to 20V transition time @ 20V PD contract in USB-C

Part Number: TPS65987EVM

Hello,

I use TPS65987EVM to deliver 20V/5A.  When 20V PD contract happens the voltage rises from 5V to 20V. How can I change this rise time? The problem is that we observe high inrush current, so  we would like to increase the rise time to make 5V to 20V transition slower.

Thanks and Regards,

Natasha

  • Hi Natasha Novik,

You can add capacitors to the output of the DC/DC to add a delay to the slew rate. Important to notice here that you are not committing any violations to the USB PD specification 3.0/1.2. I would recommend to take a look to the Source Transitions section of the specification. Essentially to the values of vSrcSlewPos, tSrcSettle, and tSrcReady with max values of 30 mV/us, 275 ms, and 285 ms respectively. I hope this helps and thank you using E2E.
