Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987D
Hello
Customer follow intel thunderbolt reference design and has no power now. Could I know how to let I2C_IRQ1Z to active? For FW, processor can not get any interrupt from TPS65983B. Thannk you.

Hi Patrick,
I would ensure the PD controller has VIN_3V3 available to power the device. Additionally, you can check the SPI lines to see if the PD controller is able to boot from the SPI Flash.
Thanks,
Eric
Hello
Intel thunderbolt processor and TPS65983B use the same flash. We check MISO/MOSI of TPS65983B and MOSI have data from TPS65983B but MISO keep while chip select pin active. What is the issue root cause?
Customer use TI tool to build up FW to binary file and merge thunderbolt NVM to image then programming to Flash.

Hello
Another question, customer don’t need display port, USB 2.0..etc. The device is sink side and VBUS was provide by 5V/3A from host side. if customer change schematics and not follow intel TBT total reference design but use TPS65983B FW on website. Has any problem for it? Thank you.

Patrick
Hi Patrick,
The TPS65983B is only supported when following the Intel reference design exactly. The FW should also have no changes from what is populated in the configuration tool for TPS65983 Intel Reference Design. If any changes are made, the customer can run into issues with receiving TBT device certification.
Thank you,
Eric
Hello Eric
if customer don’t need display port, USB 2.0..etc. The device is sink side and VBUS was provide by 5V/3A from host side. They change to intel TBT design schematics based on above requirement, but use TPS65983B intel TBT reference design FW. Is it work or have any function on customer board if not consider TBT device certification question.
If function not work based on customer design, how to modify to implement " don’t need display port, USB 2.0..etc. The device is sink side and VBUS was provide by 5V/3A from host side " feature on TPS65983B? Thank you.

Hi Patrick,
If they are building a TBT device, they need to support display port and USB2.0 as well. If they are not building a TBT device, then they can use the TPS65987D instead of the TPS65983B and configure the PD controller to meet their needs. Please note that the TBT device designs are controlled by Intel and we cannot make any changes to them.
Thank you,
Eric
